Alexa, More than a Pizza Ordering Machine is a collection of two Alexa Skills utilizing Capital One APIs that I created with three other teammates at Capital One DevExchange Hackathon in Philadelphia.

I was responsible for all the designs of voice interactions and implementations of Alexa Skills, which were created in Python using Flask-ask framework.

The idea behind this hack is to empower small businesses through the followings:

• The first Alexa Skill uncovers information on the businesses' competitors and creates coupons targeting them
• The second Alexa Skill helps customers discover new businesses by finding coupon deals near them

Collective Learning is a project I did at the Max Planck Institute of Ornithology (Germany) during Summer 2017. The project is an evaluation for whether deep reinforcement learning models are suitable for modeling collective learning behaviors in animals.

The model is a modification of an obsolete version of Karpathy Game. Here is a non-exhaustive list of things I did:

• Convert the code from Python 2 to Python 3
• Replace existing DQN implementations with OpenAI Baselines
• Extend the environment to allow for multi-agent networks
• Create OpenAI Gym multi-agent environment for testing
• Run game-theoretic computational experiments for evaluations

The results showed promising potential for DQN to be a model for animals' collective learning behaviors. Further experimental field work is needed to confirm the initial validation.

PopMap is a map that gives users the most comfortable, instead of the fastest, route to their destination. I built the project with three other teammates at Hoya Hacks 2016.

I was responsible for implementing the algorithm for the map, which combines Google Maps and Places APIs with a modified version of k-means clustering to find the route that has the most open stores.

Hackmates is a web application that helps hackers find teammates and mentors in a data-driven way. This is a product of HackerPack and was developed in response to our market research results, where 200+ people indicated that the lack of teammates and mentors was why they did not attend hackathons.

I led a team of 3 engineers on finishing the product in Django and deploying it on AWS. I was responsible for the architecture of the product and most of the frontend and backend development.

The application had ~100 users, was tested at 2 hackathons, and went through 3 iterations. Although the website is no longer live, a pdf of screenshots and early prototype of the application could be found above.

HackTutorials offers copy-and-paste tutorials with boilerplate code that help hackers create quick projects under the time constraint of hackathons. This is the first product of HackerPack.

I worked on this product with another engineer. I was responsible for all the product's design/prototype and frontend development. The product was deployed on AWS and tested at a high school hackathon.

The video above shows what the live product looks like. The idea is that hackers can learn tutorials quickly with this application in three steps:

• Click on Preview to see what the code should produce
• Click on the code to learn what each line does through detailed descriptions
• Click on "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the code to a text editor

• HackTutorials: before creating the product, I created a wireframe and interactive prototype to gather feedback from our advisors.
• Demo Day Video: I created the wireframe for the video to communicate our designers what it should look like. The final video can be found here.

The Muse Feature Proposal is a project to examine a startup's product offerings and propose a change to one of products.

I chose to propose additional features that target college students and new graduates for The Muse's job searches product. I did a mini UX study where 10 students from 6 different majors and 3 different universities went through the task of finding and applying to jobs on The Muse. I proposed two features that improved the lack of transparency in the current product: personalized job recommendation and referral system.

The pdf file details the proposal and the video is an interactive prototype of my proposed feature.

Shades of Grey is a creative exercise that uses design to explore the difference between RGB and CMYK colors.

I chose to investigate the difference through the color grey, since theoretically mixing RGB or CMYK together would produce varying shades of grey. I produced random and organized grid of RGB and CMYK colors into overarching shades of grey on print and digital media, using Java and Photoshop.

The pdf file details the process and results of the finding, and the video illustrates how the grey colors were made up of thousands of RGB and CMYK pixels in different arrangement.

I have done research projects that combine computer science and life sciences, where I used data science/machine learning to explain biological phenomena. Technical and scientific communcation is an important aspect of such projects as I often worked in a cross-functional team.
